One of my first jobs as a high school military dependent was at Camp King doing landscaping. Camp King, if memory serves, was an SS barracks. I recall seeing the SS bolts and swastikas on all the ornate fixures on some of the old buildings.
I was stationed at Camp King, Oberursel with HHC 22nd Signal Brigade in December 1991. This was my first duty station out of Basic and AIT and it was quite a change from growing back on the east coast of the USA.
I was part of the tactical satellite communications platoon. Since Camp King was so small, all of our communications equipment and vehicles were in the motor pool at McNair Kasern. We'd have morning PT/formation and breakfast and then drive to McNair to work on the equipment.
SGT Houck was my first team chief and he had a green Opel that we'd drive there in. More often that not we'd stop at the PX or AAFES autobahn gas station they had on the way to Frankfurt from Oberursel.
Around mid-1992 the 504th Signal Company was formed and we began to gather up all of the long-haul communications people and equipment in V Corps into that company. We had tropo and tac-sat stuff. Then we moved out to Muenster Kasern where I spent the rest of the time on that tour in Germany.
I was there the same time you were brother. I even rode with Sgt. Houck on a few occasions. (It's Big Earl Cullington) In case anyone is wondering. We had the time of our lives my brothers!!!

Camp King was a legend post....It well always be in my memories...
