  1. I was stationed in Darmstadt, with the USAF Security Service. I had excellent friends in the Army's ASA in Frankfurt. Those friends lived here in from 1969-71. People like Ken Wissler, now deceased; Jim Ryan and Tom May. Friends I always hope to be with in this life and after. I visited Gibbs and remember it full of life.

  6. I was at Gibbs '71-'73 with both HHC V Corps and COSCOM. I started with the the PSNCO's office and then I clerked for both the MET and MAIT teams as they evolved during that time. It is so sad to see the condition of the barracks facility in the pictures now. I remember good times and good friends: Stoner, Webster from NY, Wilson from Reno, Kuge outa Memphis, Mouse (damn, I thought it was Paul Simon), and that speed freak we went to visit in Florida after discharge. What a crew!

  7. I was stationed at GIBBS from June 1958 until May 1960 with the "7772" Signal Support Co.. Worked out of the IG Farben Bldg. as a Telephone Installer (323.2). Got some great "bratwurst and flip top "Binding Bier" at the IMBIS across the street from the main gate. Was back two years ago to visit.....re-live old memories. Yes! Spent much time in "Fredies Bier Bar" at Frieberger Warte! A long time ago!

  8. My mother was in the 7772 Signal corp from maybe 1950-52. What exactly did the signal corp do during that time? I will check back to see if this is answered. She was also stationed in Heidleburg sometime during that time. Any information is appreciated. Thanks.

  11. HI
Does anyone have a copy of the HillBilly Heaven song that woke us up every morning before we flipped the top on the bottle of binding bier next to our bed?
I was in 7772 Gibbs Kaserne. We did many telephonic things. Mucho Mucho secret. Remember this was before computors. We were stationed at Gibbs kaserne and all around Europe. Our front was that made up the telephone books for all Europe and we did do this. But we also channeled telephoic secret info in and out of Europe.
It was a great unit. We never had to go to the field. On call outs every month or so, we just drove in our ford telephone trucks. We drove them all over. To the IG Farben bldg. and also to the Dolly Bar and Kaiser strasse, and Sachsenhausen. We had emergency call outs all over, so we had no problem in leaving the Kaserne at
2 3 in the morning. Yes many times it was just to pick up the boys who had stayed up too late and needed a ride back into the Kaserne. Yes, at Gibbs Kaserne we all looked out for one another.

I'm still in touch with Pat Bleske in Watertown, Wisconsin (He is Mayor there.) And with Gordon Sledge Slaughter. He owns an OIL contract in Pennsylvania and has a winter house in Florida (Mucho $$$$$). Rischard Blair got married again and still lives in Augsburg Germany with 5 kids.

I booked old Ward our mail man into the Long Beach, Ca. Jail for Commercial burglary about 35 years ago. I know five of our guys that passed away due to Cancer, Heart Problems. We had one guy get a long sentence in West Virginia for Rape.
Thats enough for now. I'm a retired Police Officer Sgt., Crime lab director, ex-hi school teacher, and presently Criminal Defense Investigator. Yep, I used to put them in, Now I try and keep them out. I love my country.

  12. To Joe Polyak. Hi I remember you. I was at the other end of our floor by the guy that took care of our clothes.
I was also at our sub station ware house by 5 mark circle. You can call me collect any time you want at 714-9624869. Do you remember Pat Bleske, Gordon Slaughter, Byron Stein?
I've been back a few times. I was there from 1958 to 1960. Got married to an Airline Stewardess from FinnAir in Oct 1960. Just celebrated out 50th.
    Call me. (MR Q)

  16. I was in the third building on the right from the front gate, on the top floor. I was a Calibration Specialist. I bet a lot of people that knew me then wonder if I am still alive. I was having trouble with drinking to the point that I was discharged on a Chapter 9.
I'm happy to say my life has turned around for the better, mainly because I was able to put that stuff down & be ME!
We had some fun times when I was there & I often wished there was a way to meet up the other people I became friends with while there.

  28. This looks very familiar to me. I was stationed in Frankfurt in 1986. Worked at the 18th afsc later known as 5th corps finance center. Was this building right by an underground ubahn station? Also, there was a raised sidewalk that went over top of an intersection right in front of the building. Tony. B. bagmanindy@gmail.com

  34. Sad to see Gibbs in that condition. I was assigned there from 80-82. I worked at 17th DPD in the Abrams Bldg. It was the greatest two years of my life. The last time I saw Gibbs was around 97 or so. It was still in ok condition. I believe the German police were using the compound at the time.

  36. In Germany 1971 to 12/12/1973I was Assigned to HHC V Corp Training Road Show at Gibbs. Came from 2/75 FA in Hanau (Fleigelhorst Kaserne. The TRS Training Road Show was developed to help with troop moral,,(spirit de corp), and assist our troops with any drug or race problems. We wrote ,directed, produced and made our own sets (we hauled the sets in a large semi with trailer 35 - 40 ft long painted white with psychedelic butterflys and other art work skillfully painted all over it) . Traveled all over Europe putting on anti drug abuse and race relations plays. GREAT DUTY. A shout out to my brothers Jeff Forhan, John Beatty(deceased), JJ, Bob Maughn fom Idaho, Ken Baker from Springfield Misouri, John Monjovi (not that one) this one from Buffalo , Mike Levene, Dave Taylor & his wife.. Big Man,also my 2 AirBorne brothers, Joe Whitaker our photographer from Texas, soo many others. We all had good and some bad times. I recall with such vigor as I associate my (our) youth with it Long Live GIBBS Hooraw

  37. Gibbs Kaserne: Reference the Engineer Topo Company 1960-1963 when I was there. I do recall Captain John T Myers. A fine man and an old fashioned senior Captain. The company had excellent troops who did special mapping and targeting and printing work. Gibbs had an assorted collection of Special Troops for V Corps Hqs, including the HQ Company. Most of them worked at the Farben Building during the day for various V Corps HQS staff offices. There were two transportation companies (505th (Captain Leonce Gaiter) and 92nd - Captain Beau Brown), a MP Platoon, a big Medical Service Unit with a motor pool full of ambulances. Units of the 3rd Armored Division were there as well. In 1962 a LRRP unit was set up ... a real gang of wildmen who had the duty of 'stay behind and call in the nukes on themselves" when overrun by the Soviet divisions.' The Big hospital across the street was also good duty with many fine people. All in all, a very good assignment and good years when the dollar brought 4.2 marks and prices were affordable. .

  38. In response to Mellow. I well remember those days. Assigned to Gibbs in late 1960 and worked at V Corps HQs off and on. Went through two Winter Shield Exercises, was there when the Berlin Wall went up. Both Captain Gaiter and Captain Brown were close personal friends. I succeeded Capt Brown as Commander of the 92nd Car Co. Leonce Gaiter made full Colonel before he retired with great distinction. He passed away some years ago. I am still in contact with Beauregard Brown . . . who also served with distinction and was on General Westmoreland's staff at MACV in the early days. I agree that John T Myers was a fine gentleman of the old school. I also recall the arrival of the LURPS - although no doubt the bravest of the brave they had serious disciplinary issues and were referred to as the "Article 15 Mob." I am in touch with one of the nurses from the 97th Hospital who married a close friend who served with me a Gibbs - Bill Pistner. Bill passed away last year. His cancers were blamed on his duty at the Pacific Nuclear Testing Range back in the late 1950's. Moon Mullins was a close friend. He was assigned to Northern Command and lived in the BOQ at the entrance to the 97th gate. He is still alive and is highly regarded as a man who crossed the Rhine during WWII and was wounded as an Advisor in Nam. Like others who post to this site, I am overwhelmed with memories of such wonderful people and exciting times so long ago. Auf wiedersehn.
