There used to be a path in the woods betweens Lincoln Village and Santa Barbara Village. I remember riding my bike down that path almost every day to visit my friends who lived in Santa Barbara. We used to play football in the empty field that was across the street from the houses. The last photo in the set really took me back!

If any of you happen to have old pictures of St. Barbara, I would really appreciate if you could share them with me.

Couldn't find any and - apparently - St. Barbara is going to a significant re-shaping process following the conversion. Edison Street is currently totally refurbished and a couple of new houses will be build.

What a blast to stumble upon this site. I was there Jan '64 - June '67. Fond childhood memories. Thanks!

The houses of the St. Barbara Village were sold last year. They're under momunment protection, but the new owners (a lot of young families) rebuilt most of them. If anyone is interested, I can share some pics.

We are riding the path with our children on a regular basis now. We bought one of the houses in St Barbara (4457 A), Edisonstr. 23. The small streets were re-named last year, so the address is now Ella-Fitzgerald-Weg 7. As one of the German families who moved in the houses now, we were interested in the history and who lived here earlier. If anyone wants to be in touch, we'd be happy. We can also provide up to date pictures.

That is so nice to hear from somebody living now in St. Barbara.

It still is an amazing housing area (I know plans are (were ?) to build some new ones next to existing, so might change in the future, but now it looks like a Heaven's hidden corner)

There were two paths from Santa Barbara to Lincoln. One was one house row away from Heidelburgerstrasse and the other was farther away from that street, maybe 200 yards farther, but still parallel. I usually took the first one, closer to H-Strasse. We had the first duplex, the closest one to the north entrance. There was an Italian restaurant right around the corner from the entrance on H-Strasse. I THINK it was Umberto's but it could have been Lazario's, or even something else. It's been too long. I remember I had goulasch for the first time there. I had just moved to Darmstadt from Augsburg and met a bunch of band members who mainly lived in SB and they took me out, probably to woo me into their band, the Destruktive Sidewalk. I remained good friends with those guys during that high school junior year I was in Darmstadt, '67-8, even though I joined another band, the Daze of Knight (later reincarnated as the Amber Bottle). I could name some names from that era. If there is a way to post photos, I have an Google Earth aerial view of both Santa Barbara and Lincoln saved on my computer.

What fun! My family lived here in 67. I had such fun. My brothers used to climb what they called "the big kid tree". It was in the field where some German residences back fence was. We used to hop the wall and snatch plums from someone's yard. I loved the big wooden slide at the playground. Fond memories of watching sheep herding in the woods - the big pool at Eberstadt .... the candy shop - riding bikes to Lincoln Village .... love it!

Our family, the Masseys, lived at 4458A in 74-76. A lot of fond memories! I don't remember a lot of names of my friends, but here are some I do remember...Janine Anderson, Greta Petrie, Liza Lank, Linda Terrell, Jeanette Potter, Mike Dunn. My maiden name was Mikki Massey.

We Millers lived in Sta. Barbara Village from 1960-63 on the last street of duplexes - one street before the full Colonels houses and the biggest and grandest of them all - the General's house. I remember playing at the powerhouse, sliding down the mounds of coal. What fun that was. I too used to walk the path to Jefferson/Lincoln Villages. Loved playing in the woods and loved the candy store on H'strasse. My first introduction to gummi bears and sour sticks. The Mark was worth a quarter in those years.

Great pictures! Thank you. For me, these are unforgotten memories. It is such a long time ago as I have been there as a guest of my american girlfriend. Her name was Erin and it was a short time, too short. I have never seen here again. I said it; unforgotten memories...

Greetings Mathias,

My family lived in St. Barbara Village from 1975 to 1980. We lived down the very first street in the 2nd duplex (Fred Hill Way) when I was 10 to 15. I recall the herds of sheep passing in the field behind our home and many other childhood memories. I used to take the path in the woods to then Lincoln village after school to visit my friends and participate in after school activities.

If you have photos or a video of the St Barbara neighborhood you could share, they would be welcome.

Found your listing info online when searching on the internet for my old neighborhood in Darmstadt.

Thank you,
Annette Olson
